Christina, a founder of Avanzar, has extensive experience working in Latin America on water rights, security-related human rights and human rights impact assessments. Avanzar fosters partnerships with government, academic institutions, communities and civil society to promote corporate respect for human rights and develop rights-compatible grievance mechanisms. Christina participated in a multi-stakeholder initiative to produce the Child Rights and Security Checklist, a tool for governments and companies to address child rights impacts in their public and private security arrangements. Christina also partnered with UNICEF and Barrick Gold Mining Company to pilot the Business and Children's Rights Principles and apply the child’s vulnerability matrix at a mine site.
Christina formerly worked as a Manager at Business for Social Responsibility (BSR), a business association that focuses on ethics, environmental and social issues.
Christina’s work with the social sector began over twenty years ago while managing a community-led non-profit in Puerto Rico. She holds an MBA from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina and an economics degree from Yale University.
