Hello! I chair groups on responsible business conduct in the trade associations DigitalEurope and AmCham EU. I am also a member of the OECD Multi-Stakeholder Group on responsible minerals supply chains and a founding strategic partner of the European Partnership for Responsible Minerals (EPRM). Supply chain due diligence laws e.g. EU batteries, minerals, CS3D, forced labour and the US Dodd Frank a, nd Uyghur Acts, etc. they are different in terms of company legal obligations, type of due diligence, geographical scope, minerals scope, type of enforcement.....This coupled with different due diligence laws across multiple jurisdictions is unworkable for companies. There needs to be a strong focus to take stock of what laws have been introduced and whether they work or not, to focus on if they are being complied with and enforced properly before introducing new legislation. All stakeholders need to work together to identify where there are gaps in implementing these laws and to ensure a global level playing field and supply chain due diligence policy coherence. Processes such as the US-EU Trade & Technology Council (TTC), in the OECD and UN as well as working with regulators as we approach the 2024 European elections and over the coming years will be helpful in this regard. Looking forward to taking this discussion to the next level in Geneva at the UNFBHR next week.
