Alva is Senior Adviser at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. Her main duties lie within the business human rights-sphere, in the Political Department as well as the Department for Development Policy. She's overseeing various of the ministry's projects implemented with the private sector and implementing the Foreign Ministry's initiative on strengthening policy coherence across different development financing instruments for the private sector. Earlier, Alva has worked with the private sector, on various projects in East Africa and fragile contexts, served the UN Development Programme (UNDP) under the Resident Coordinators’ Office in Malaysia, including advancing the work for a NAP in Malaysia. Prior, she worked with education-related programmes and projects, including initiatives advancing collaboration between academia and industry. She has carried out projects and campaigns for NGOs and student unions and been involved in research projects. Alva holds two Master’s degrees: in international law (human rights), Abo Akademi University in Finland and in human geography, Grenoble Alpes University in France. She is active in numerous Foundations and Associations, in initiatives advancing rights of marginalised groups and individuals at risk.
