Leonardo Sakamoto is journalist and has a PhD in Political Science. Member of the Board of Trustees of the United Nations Trust Fund on Contemporary Forms of Slavery since 2014 and the Financial Sector Commission on Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking (Liechtenstein Initiative) since 2018, he is a journalism professor in Brazil and was a visiting scholar at the New School for Social Research in New York. He is the director of Repórter Brasil, one of the most important civil society organizations in the fight against slavery in the country. He was the writer of the II Brazilian National Plan for the Eradication of Slavery and one of the founders of the Brazilian Business Pact for the Eradication of Slavery. Sakamoto has written several articles and books, particularly concerning slave labour. He writes daily about human rights and politics in UOL, the brazilian largest news website.
