Dr Martin Buttle is Strategic Lead: General Merchandise at ETI. Martin leads ETI’s work on general merchandise, purchasing practices and new business models. He is responsible for ETIs partnership with Better Buying - a platform for collecting clear, relevant and timely information on brand specific purchasing practices. Until recently, Martin was Apparel & Textiles Category Lead where he was responsible for ETIs programme work in South India, Turkey and the UK. Martin has over 15 years’ experience in ethical trade and sustainability focusing primarily on clothing and fashion industry in academia, consultancy and the non-profit sector. In 2013, he was lead consultant in the team that won Guardian Sustainable Business Consultancy of the Year Award. Martin holds a PhD from the University of Birmingham on Ethical Finance in the Social Economy.
